For electronic components such as plug contacts or medical-technology implants, for which durability and biocompatibility are required, pulsed Nd:YAG lasers are an excellent and reliable production method. For small components typical powers of 150 - 500W are common.

An example: The welding of the titanium casing of heart pacemakers is carried out by overlapping spot welding. The fusion heat spreads over the casing from pulse to pulse. The sensitive electronics situated in the interior therefore heat up only negligibly. Welding takes place only about 0.25 millimeter deep, whereby the welding depth must be observed exactly. Through adapted and optimized HW&SW, a pulse duration of 1ms can be reliably detected - even with pulse seam welding.
